Been looking forward to watching A Real Pain. I guess I’m expecting KC to have this sort of role anyway, so I don’t think I’ll be disappointed even if there’s not much of a resolution. Got to be better than everything being explained in some manipulatively revealed tragedy. Some people are just odd and I’m ready for that to be centre-staged.

I agree, slice of life stuff is better. The movie is satisfying in that sense. It is sort of a commentary on loneliness too, as you'll see. And it's true some people are just odd. Perhaps I was feeling unkind about the character for whatever reason, or for my own personal reasons. I think I hated just how self-serving all of his outbursts were, and how the characters all thought he was so great. That, and little selfish things that drove me crazy. So, yeah, I guess I have a beef with this character more than the movie.
I’ve been watching Patrick Schwarzenegger in White Lotus and he has much the same vibe: so effortlessly annoying that I wonder if the actor is just that person anyway. But I suspect in his case, there’s an arc ending in comeuppance.
